The Arizona State Society, DAR, sponsors a variety of contests for students.

The DAR encourages the promotion of historic preservation, education, and patriotism by offering students opportunities for awards. The contests are open to students in public, private, parochial schools and registered home-study programs. We are proud to recognize and encourage the efforts of deserving students.

Our chapters can help students with entries at the local community level. Most contests and awards advance from the local chapters to the state level and to the national level. If you have questions about the student contests and awards, please contact our state regent.

American History Essay Contest

The American History Essay Contest provides a unique opportunity for students to demonstrate both their writing skills and their knowledge of our nation’s history. Open to students in grades five through eight in a public, private or parochial school and those who are homeschooled.

Patriots of the American Revolution DAR High School Essay Contest

Focusing on both men and women of the American Revolution, this essay contest encourages students to seek out and research Patriots across all walks of life who sacrificed much to achieve our nation’s independence. It is hoped that students will discover new and interesting Patriots who inspire them.  Open to students in grades nine through 12 in public, private or parochial schools and homeschooled.

Constitution Week Poster Contest

DAR and non-DAR members are invited to participate in the Constitution Week Poster Contest. The poster should illustrate/celebrate the spirit or meaning of the U.S. Constitution. The contest is open to individuals of all ages, and there are no age specific categories for judging.

Scholarships

The online application portal opens November 1 annually for students to submit their applications, transcripts, letters of recommendation and other information. We encourage students to apply for one of our National scholarships.

Junior American Citizens Artistic Expression Contest

The Junior American Citizens (JAC) program engages schoolchildren in learning about good citizenship in an age‑appropriate way. The Junior American Citizens Artistic Expression Contest invites students to explore their appreciation of our history through art.

DAR Good Citizen Award and Scholarship Contest

The DAR Good Citizen Award and Scholarship Contest recognizes students who demonstrate a deep understanding of the qualities needed in an informed, engaged citizenry.
