Patriots - Who were they?

A DAR Patriot is an individual who participated in the American Revolutionary War by actively supporting the cause of independence and contributing to the establishment of the United States. Patriots are both men and women who demonstrated unwavering courage, dedication, and sacrifice, embodying the ideals upon which our nation was founded. Patriotic contributions spanned a variety of areas, including civil service, military service, political activism, rendering medical services, and financial and material support.

Forgotten Patriots

The DAR is working diligently to identify minority individuals who contributed to America’s independence in the Revolutionary War era. The National Society has published a book, Forgotten Patriots, which describes heroism and acts of service by American Indians and African Americans. To date, thousands of forgotten Patriots have been identified, and DAR researchers continue to uncover these individuals and their unique stories.

Female Patriots

Have you ever considered the role that your female ancestors played in the American Revolutionary War? Women played an important role in the formation of our great nation. Many women gave support caring for the injured, cooking, sewing uniforms, etc., for the Revolutionary cause.
