Becoming a DAR Member

We Welcome You to Join Us!

Arizona State Society, DAR, members are an active and patriotic group who are passionate about honoring their Patriot ancestors through community service. Our members help to preserve history, advance education, promote patriotism, and support our veterans and active‑duty military.

Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolutionary War is eligible to join the DAR. Patriots are not only soldiers but anyone who contributed to the cause of American freedom. Patriots are men or women who served in the military, provided food for soldiers, served on juries or in town positions, or provided medical care plus other patriotic actions during the American Revolutionary War. Members come from a variety of backgrounds and interests, but all share the common bond of having an ancestor who aided in the founding of our country. On the eve of America’s 250th anniversary, this is a perfect time to join DAR.

How to Join

With over 3,000 members in 43 chapters across Arizona, we have volunteers who will help you document your family lineage to a Patriot. Joining the DAR does not require an interest in genealogy, but we ask that you gather documents to connect you to your parents and grandparents and possibly your great-grandparents. Not sure if you descend from a Patriot? The documents that you share with our volunteers will aid in their search for a Patriot in your family tree. We will help you find a chapter near you that meets on a day and time that will work with your schedule. We encourage you to visit a chapter meeting and talk with other members about their experiences, chapter projects, and activities.
